Giant Dome Theater Consortium To Support Cuba Film Production

Evanston, IL (August 17, 2017) – Giant Screen Films is pleased to announce a collaboration with the Giant Dome Theater Consortium (GDTC) on the upcoming release of Cuba, a groundbreaking giant screen documentary set for worldwide release on May 18, 2018. The GDTC is comprised of seven leading museums across the United States – the Science Museum of Minnesota; the Cincinnati Museum Center; Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago; Discovery Place, Inc., Charlotte; Museum of Science, Boston; Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, San Diego; and the St. Louis Science Center.

Cuba, produced by Golden Gate 3D in association with BBC Earth and distributed globally by Giant Screen Films, combines state-of-the-art photographic technology and artistic storytelling to immerse audiences in the rhythms and exuberance of this vibrant nation. With unprecedented access from the Cuban government, the filmmakers have captured the first giant screen footage of the island – including the first 8K footage of Cuba’s cities, people, culture, celebrations, arts, coral reefs, wildlife, and aerial landscapes.

Cuba is an extraordinary subject for our unique dome screens,” said Mike Day, Executive VP of the Science Museum of Minnesota and Chair of the GDTC Board of Directors. “The country is endlessly fascinating at this monumental turning point in its history, and audiences have never been more curious. Sweeping aerials, natural history, compelling human and science stories, stunning cinematography… Cuba delivers on what a museum giant dome cinema experience is all about. A dome film can take our viewers on a journey in a way no other medium can.”

Cuba naturally lends itself to the majesty of the dome,” said Peter Chang, Director of Cuba. “The pristine ecosystems, the preserved colonial architecture and the vibrant scenes of deeply rooted culture on the island are all bursting with complexity and color, and bringing this to life on the immersive dome canvas looks nothing short of spectacular. Everything from the aerials, to the intimate personal stories, to the underwater sequences are shot using the highest quality methods of capture, and the result is guaranteed to wow audiences everywhere.”

“We’re extremely proud to partner with the GDTC on such an important and buzz-generating film,” said Don Kempf, President of Giant Screen Films. “The giant dome community is, in many ways, the backbone of the museum cinema industry. Cuba marks the third collaboration between GSF and GDTC after Tornado Alley and Journey to Space – two films that continue to be tremendously successful in the museum cinema market. There is no question that the GDTC’s involvement contributes greatly to a film’s quality and stature.”

Cuba will be available in all formats: 2D & 3D, 15/70, DCI-compliant Digital, IMAX Digital, IMAX Laser, Dome-customized 15/70, Fulldome Digital. Contact Giant Screen Films for pre-leasing terms and more information.
