Hidden Pacific Partner Profiles: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and National Parks Conservation Association
Evanston, IL (February 28, 2019) – Hidden Pacific, the upcoming giant screen adventure directed by award-winning filmmaker, photographer, and conservationist Ian Shive, will be presented at the upcoming GSCA Film Expo on Monday, March 11. Produced by Tandem Stills + Motion and Giant Screen Films, the film is a pioneering large-format odyssey to the stunning marine national monuments situated in the far reaches of the Pacific Ocean.
These vast and remote marine national monuments and national wildlife refuges are a beacon of environmental conservation and contain thriving ecosystems filled with vibrant coral reefs, large colonies of birds, and threatened species that depend on these habitats for survival. Working in cooperation with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), Tandem Stills + Motion was given unprecedented access to the bio-protected areas, as well as on-the-ground support from scientists and refuge managers. For viewers of the film, this provides a first-ever glimpse of these precious places and the fascinating creatures that live there.
“Hidden Pacific brilliantly captures the work by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service employees and its partners in these remote corners of the globe that provides important scientific discoveries and research to inform our ecological future. USFWS is honored to partner with Tandem Stills + Motion and Giant Screen Films to bring these places to the public on such a broad scale using spectacular imagery that offers a window into the world of marine national monuments and hosts an unparalleled journey for viewers,” said Alice Garrett, project lead, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
Hidden Pacific will be part of a global effort to inform the public about these marine protected areas and the conservation challenges we face, such as rising sea levels, ocean acidification, plastics, and species protection. Tandem Stills + Motion will partner with leading national environmental groups, such as the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), to amplify the film’s message. For 100 years, NPCA has worked to protect and preserve our nation’s most iconic and inspirational places for future generations. NPCA is proud to partner with Tandem Stills + Motion during its centennial year and will feature Hidden Pacific in its ongoing efforts to educate the public about protected places — both on land and at sea — and advocate for their preservation.
Key locations featured in the film include Palmyra Atoll, within the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, Midway Atoll, within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, and Rose Atoll Marine National Monument — breathtaking faraway islands featured in an immersive cinema format that will leave audiences with a deep-felt appreciation for these extraordinary places and the beauty of nature left untouched by civilization.
